"Stick Hand: The Big Escape" is the second part of my senior thesis. This is a physics based, strategy game, inspired by the games "I am Bread" and "Octodad: The Dadliest Catch." You play as Sticky, a blue sticky hand toy with two hands, who has become sentient and wants to get out of the house so people can't play with him anymore. I decided to use a controller for this game rather than the keyboard and mouse.
The controls are a big part of this game, as this is where the challenge comes in. It is meant to be difficult for the player to control the character because the game is based on the physics, so the movement can be unpredictable, but that's what makes it fun.
There are lots of things that can make Sticky messy around this house. Lots of dirt is scattered around, dirty laundry, water, and textures like carpet can make Sticky dirty and less sticky. If he gets too sticky, it's game over and the player has to start back at the beginning of the level.
There are two levels for this demo. The first one is Timmy's bedroom, who is the main NPC in this game. He wonders around his bedoom looking for toys to play with and if he catches you, he will take you with him.
The second level is the kitchen. There is lots of food in here for Sticky to get dirty with so the player has to be careful. This level uses more vertical platforms, forcing the player to climb up. Diana, Timmy's mom, can be found in the kitchen, if she catches you, she will throw you on the floor because toys aren't supposed to be on the counter or table.
Each level has a different exit. The bedroom has the easiest one because it is the first level, the player only has to get to the doorknob to get out of the room. For the second level, the kitchen, the exit is above the refridgerator, a vent. Once the player touches these, they can exit the level and move on.
In each level, a golden sticky hand is hidden and can be found b the player. Of all the sticky hands are found in each level, then an extra bonus level will be unlocked.
